The Metropolitan Park, located in the north of the city was built during the administration of Mayor of Guayaquil Jaime Nebot Saadi, as part of the urban regeneration program. The park was inaugurated on March 28, 2014.
It is located in the area called “Las Iguanas”, a former landfill. The park has a length of 30 hectares; in which nature is abundant since lengthy forest areas surround it.
The park has several green areas, natural forests, walking paths of natural terrain and others with asphaltic concrete, as well as sport areas like bikeways, skate lanes, courts for many uses like indoor soccer, basketball and volleyball. There are recreational areas with playgrounds and water games for kids.
The park has a picnic area surrounded by trees in which there are 15 concrete tables with grills included, several viewpoints, small squares and roundabouts. There are also areas for horse riding, mountain bikeways and walking paths among others.
The park also has a second service area whose entrance is located in front Eco City, a residential development. This part has aquatic children games and tables with parasols.
The Park has an area for outdoor grills, and also an equine therapy center for children and games for the elderly and for people with disabilities.
