Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS) (Heritage)


Engineer Hector Martinez Torres built the building known as “La Caja del Seguro” (Social Security Fund) in 1968 following the layouts made by architect Jose Gortaire Iturralde.


The building has a singular architecture for the circular and corrugated form of its six top floors that has multiple windows. The front façade has a mural painted by Ecuadorian artists Jorge Sweet and Segundo Espinel, entitled “Justicia Social” (Social Justice) that has a length of 90 meters, a height of 3,50 meters and is formed by 750.670 mosaics.
